[Satellite Today 11-12-08] iDirect Inc. has entered into a technology partnership with O3b Networks to build features into iDirect's operating software so its partners can access the satellite network through the Evolution DVB-S2/ACM product line, iDirect announced Nov. 12.
O3b Networks plans to deploy a 16-satellite constellation to create a satellite-based global Internet network. The Ka-band constellation will provide high-speed satellite capacity for iDirect’s partners and provide an opportunity to expand cellular backhaul, broadband IP connectivity and other satellite services.
“Through the O3b network, our partners will gain a cost-effective way to deliver broadband connectivity to the other 3 billion people in the world who currently have no form of voice or Internet access, David Bettinger, iDirect’s CTO, said in a statement. “Through a simple software upgrade, our partners can easily and quickly achieve a new level of network speed and performance and expand their services to a ready market.”
